Maths Performance task - Refection

This performance task has helped me understand the topic statistics better and also helped me see uses of statistics in real life. From what I have learned statistics is collection, organization, and interpretation of data. Examples of statistics include Bar graph, pictogram, histogram, line graph, stem and leaf diagrams and pie chart. Statistics also provides tools for prediction and forecasting. Examples include stem and leaf diagrams helping us see the mode, find the median and calculate the mean easily. Not only has the task helped me see uses of statistics in real life it has also taught me how to use it in real life. From my personal experience I have not encountered many place where statistics are used but one of them is the bills of my family using electricity, water and natural gas. I think the "Singapore power" uses graphs to share the information are because they would like to show us clearly the increase and decrease of "power" we use so we can reduce on it if we are using too much. I can say this with confidence because when we installed air-conditioning to our rooms we can see the increase of electricity used and started cutting down on the time we use the air-conditioning. Another form of statistics is the line graph of stocks in the market. This form of statistics helps the owner and the employs see the growth of the company easily. Not only them it also helps investors too and help them decide which company they should put their money.Statistics can also be used in other subjects accept Maths. Perhaps in Science where amount of Force or Energy changes need to be shown.

Although statistics have many advantages they do have a few disadvantages. Not only students but even adults can make careless mistakes while making or even reading statistics. Serious mistakes in description and interpretation that even experienced professionals make can lead to devastating decision errors. For instance, social policy, medical practice, and the reliability of structures like bridges all rely on the proper use of statistics. Even when statistical techniques are correctly applied, the results can be difficult to interpret for those lacking expertise. This way young people or illiterate who have not learned statistics would not be able to interpret anything which can cause inconvenience to everybody. But overall I think that statistics has I great importance in life and in Maths. I also thank the great mathematicians who came up with this which helped a lot in our daily life. Now I will talk about my learning experiences in the group. Our main strength in our group is that all of us are quite good with using microsoft word. Although we faced a few problems with word we managed to overcome them by consulting our teachers and for me my father. My roles in the group is organizing all the data and at the same time making the poster look more attractive. If we were given a similar task we could really use a meet up as online meeting ups are not as useful meeting up face to face. Another challenge faced by my group is lack of time. Unfortunately my Hindi teacher had given me and Siddharth a lot of homework. But we manged to cut down our relaxation time and were able to finish the project.
